Nobles Rest Entrance
last updated: 13 July 2021
The Society is proposing to create a new entrance to Nobles Rest from the top of Library Road – a short cut into the park. The entrance would be called the ‘Tarbuck Entrance’ after the late Rob Tarbuck, a local architect and longstanding member of the Executive Committee whose idea it was. The proposals have received Planning Permission (a unanimous vote) and we have obtained grant funding from the Town Council and South Lakeland District Council. If you go to the top end of the Library Road car park and look through the railings you will see the route of the proposed path. We are presently in the process of agreeing the legal arrangements with the owners who are generally supportive of the idea (the land is part of the M&S site) and we hope to be able to proceed before long.

Plaques

There are to be two new green Civic Society information plaques, one at the bottom of Captain French Lane and one on the Old Fellside Sunday School.

Street Signs
last updated: 18 July 2021
We have been consulted by Helen Moriarty of Kendal Town Council, about the colour of the many street signs around the town – some white on black, some white on blue and many looking rusty and worn out and in need of renewal. There seems to have been no system in the past for which design to use. We would prefer to see white on a blue background as being more attractive.
Chantry Gardens
last updated: 18 July 2021
A plan and sketch has been prepared of a suggested design for a garden at this site beside Stramongate Bridge – see the sketch below. The committee felt that this would create an attractive and popular public area. It is now, of course, affected by the flood prevention walls but we still hope that we may be able to develop the idea in consultation with the Environment Agency.

This is your chance to have your say about anything the Society is involved with or anything that you feel that needs discussion. Your comments will be passed on to the Executive Committee for consideration and will be freely available, on this page, to all members who may wish to respond.
